World Mental Health Day

October 14, 2024/in General News/by Mark Pedrasa

Thursday 10th October children and staff were able to wear something yellow. Because we stand brighter, together.

Every year, thousands of schools, companies and communities come together to make World Mental Health Day that little bit brighter by wearing something yellow supporting YoungMinds.

Right now, the world is a really tough place for children and young people to grow up in. We want young people to know that they don’t have to go through this alone. Things can get better.

This World Mental Health Day, wear yellow with thousands of others across the UK and raise awareness to show young people that they’re not alone with their mental health.

Cultural Day

October 14, 2024/in General News/by Mark Pedrasa

Friday 11th October children come into school for our Cultural Day. It was lovely to see the diversity with different ethnic backgrounds.

At the end of assembly children in all year groups got to show their cultural clothes. Children got a chance to speak about what they celebrate in their religions. It was amazing to see so many different religions and cultures that are celebrated. This was a day for us to show our unity in diversity, know the differences and similarities of our cultures as a school.  Next week children will be able to bring in food from their cultures to continue learning and understanding more about our school community.

An email has been sent out: our nex equality, diversity and inclusion event takes place on FRIDAY 18th OCTOBER in the school hall from 2:00om. We are encouraging you all to provide a food dish which represents the area, country or region where your family originates from. Further details can be found in the letter attached to an email. Please make every effort to attend and we look forward to welcoming you next week.

Celebration Assembly

October 7, 2024/in General News/by Mark Pedrasa

A lovely celebration assembly run by Mr Wanless, in year 2 they have been investigating what is the best way to remove glitter out of paper towels, water and water/soap.

Year 4 Rowan in english have been studying prepositions, year 4 Aspen have been convincing the king from The King Who Band the Light to bring back the light. Year 1 have been working on number bonds to 8 in maths. Year 6 amazing artwork from Leonardo Da Vinci where they have been sketching their own hands making sure they are adding in details of bones, veins and muscles. Year 3 have created their own stone age hut for homework using different materials. Year 5 have been reading Wolves in the Walls creating their own story. Well done to all the children in assembly who presented their work today.

ROBLOX

October 7, 2024/in General News/by Mark Pedrasa

The use of ‘Roblox’ as it has been brought to our attention that more of our children in lower key stage 2 are using the gaming platform.

I know at times the different apps and gaming sites can be a minefield, so I have attached a help sheet for parents below, if you have any questions or seek further guidance, please email me at: liam.wanless@parkside.herts.sch.uk

Year 6 Artwork

October 7, 2024/in General News/by Mark Pedrasa

Year 6 art topic this term was to look at the famous artist Leonardo da Vinci.

They went on to find out that he was not only a famous artist, but a scientist, mathematician and inventor to name but a few of his interests and skills. They have produced some amazing artwork based on one of his anatomical drawings of the human hand. Well done to all our budding artists in year 6. More artwork from Year 6 as they learnt all about the style of perspective to create a display focused on their names. They have enjoyed learning this with Mrs Lunniss and Mrs Knowles can’t wait to see more incredible artwork, keep it up.

YR 1 and 2 Little Angel Theatre

October 7, 2024/in General News/by Mark Pedrasa

Year 1 and  2 took part in the Little Angel Theatre Reading Through Play workshop on Wednesday.

Children were engaged in the session and enjoyed joining in with drama games, using puppets, watching and looking at the facilitators which was based on the book Charlie Cook’s Favourite Book by Julia Donaldson. This helped the children in english with different ways to learn the story with picture books.
