Headteacher’s Newsletter – Friday 21st Newsletter 2018

As we come to the end of another busy week there has been much to enjoy and celebrate. It was good to see so many of you at the ‘Meet the Teacher’ meetings before and after school. These meetings are a vital way of informing parents about expectations regarding the curriculum, standards and behaviour  in each year group. We hope you found them useful. Copies of the curriculum newsletters which were shared at  the meetings can be found on the KEY INFORMATION tab on the new school website.

Year 3 had a great experience learning about survival in the wild at the Bushcraft Centre in Hatfield Woods. The children learnt about how to work together as a team through bonding exercises and developed a greater appreciation of the natural landscape. Thanks must be given to the Mrs Dyos, Miss James, Mrs Moon and Miss Bowers who looked after them so well during their experience. We hoped that you enjoyed yourselves children and will remember the experience for many years.

Please remember to send you child to school in the correct uniform. All children must wear shoes to school; it is important that we all uphold the highest of standards. There will be a uniform check for all children next week. It is so important that we act as community and pull together to give the children the best example possible.

We have begun to populate the new school website. Please keep checking the site as often as possible for the latest updates. The slides that are used at Monday morning assemblies will also be shared on the site and will give you the opportunity of discussing with your child the theme of the week.

BREAKFAST CLUB – It always a pleasure to see the children having fun at Breakfast Club every morning. Please do consider sending your child to this very important club; it is open from 8:00am every morning to support parents who would like the option of dropping their child to school early. Cost £2.50 per child. Thank you.

TABLE TENNIS – A letter was sent out earlier this week about the possibility of setting up a Table Tennis Club. Spaces are limited to 30 and there are only a few left. Don’t forget that if your child is in Year 2 or above you will need to return your slip to the office as soon as possible!! We have been very fortunate to secure the services of a coach to many of the best players in the country; something which the children will benefit from immensely.

GOVERNORS – There is a vacancy on the governing body for a Parent Governor. If you are interested in helping to shape the strategic direction and future of the school, please make enquiries at the school office for further information. It is a very rewarding role and offers great insight in the way the school is run and the different systems and procedures is uses to ensure the best outcomes for the children. Do consider putting yourself forward.

ANCIENT GREEK WORKSHOP – The children in Year 6 were transported back to ancient Greece on Thursday morning. Through role play and the study of ancient artefacts they began to develop a real understanding of what life was like in ancient Greece. The representative from the Portals to the Past (the company who ran the workshop) was very impressed with the children’s understanding and desire to learn more about their history topic. Thank you children for representing the school so well.

AFTER SCHOOL CLUB – Last week I wrote to you about the possibility of starting an After School Club at Parkside. Having made enquiries this week a letter will be sent out on Monday to gauge interest from parents to see if there is enough interest in order for further arrangements to be  made. Apologies for the delay but we want to make sure that we have the correct arrangements in place before any further commitments are made.

DIARY ON SITE – Over the coming weeks the content on the website we will begin to populate the pages with more and more content about the school.  One of the most effective ways of keeping parents and carers informed of events taking place in the school is to use the CALENDAR button on the homepage.

MOBILE PHONES – SMILES NOT MOBILES! Please remember to finish you phone call before entering the school premises at the beginning and end of the day. As a school we want to set the right impression and uphold the highest standards. One way that we can all do this, is to meet and greet the children with a smile. Thanks you for your support with this very important issue.

TWITTER – The school has opened a new Twitter account which will be updated regularly with news and events that take place at Parkside. Please sign up and follow the school – our Twitter handle is @headparkside
